Project / Programme Management and Governance
Support Services

87% of the total listed suppliers on G-Cloud (1,852) are SMEs, contributing to the 19,966 overall services made available through the Digital Marketplace. The opportunity for SMEs to engage in business with government in turn enables government to capitalise on cost savings and operational efficiencies offered by the cloud to make public services more accessible.
DP Connect CEO, Toni Cocozza, comments:
“Becoming an accredited supplier on the G-Cloud 6 Digital Marketplace is a great accomplishment and business opportunity for DP Connect. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to support a larger group of Public Sector clients – it’s a real chance for DP Connect to demonstrate that our experience and delivery are often better than some of the larger suppliers that have traditionally dominated this space, and that we can offer better value for money.”

Anglia Ruskin University – Careers Fair 2015

Posted: 2015-03-04
Last week DP Connect were invited to attend a careers fair for students from the business school at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. The purpose of the careers fair was to give the students an insight into the variety of employers and jobs available in the Cambridge area, and to build relationships with companies to gain an internship or graduate position.
As a business we have a strong ethos of growing our own talent, and we have run a successful apprenticeship scheme in our Bromley office for the last 3 years. Since opening in May 2012, our Cambridge office continues to grow in line with the huge demand in the market and we are keen to build relationships with local Colleges and Universities to start developing a similarly successful scheme here in Cambridge.
The Head of our Cambridge office, Cherry Swayne attended the event and was accompanied by John Bridger, a recent Graduate who joined the Cambridge in November 2014 and has enjoyed great success. They spent the afternoon speaking to undergraduates from the Business Studies and HR degree courses who were interested in learning more about what a career in recruitment entails.
Following the success of this event the DP Connect Cambridge office are partnering with the Anglia Ruskin University to offer a 2 week work experience placement to one of their final year students this summer. We will also be formalising our internship and apprenticeship scheme this spring, to welcome our first new recruits in Summer 2015. We see this as being a fantastic way to bring enthusiastic and ambitious young people into the business, and to give them all the training and support they need to start a successful career in one of the UK’s most important industries.

Recruitment Agency Expo 2015 – Head of DP Connect Cambridge, Cherry Swayne reflects on the day

Posted: 2015-03-03
“Last week I spent an enjoyable but busy day at the Recruitment Agency Expo listening to talks and training workshops by some of the industry’s leading voices. The Expo provided a great opportunity to get a broad picture on what is happening in the economy and the recruitment industry in general, as well as honing my skills in specific areas around advanced candidate sourcing and building longstanding relationships.
Here are some of the top things I learnt”
The Market
·         The recruitment industry is now worth more than it ever was pre-recession.
·         2014 saw the highest growth in job vacancies for over 15 years.
·         However, the number of applications per vacancy dropped month on month for the whole year.
·         There are now more jobs than ever, and less people who are applying for them.
·         80% of employers are looking to hire in the next 3 months.
·         As we face the general election in May there is a lot of regulations and politics surrounding the recruitment industry.
·         As Consultants we need to be aware of how politics, both local and national, affects our industry and come up with solutions to wider problems i.e. skills shortages, lack of equality and diversity etc.
Relationship Management
·         We are now in a candidate-led market and we need to find candidates that are invisible to our competitors.
·         Make sure we are constantly seeking referrals – the best people in the market know other good people.
·         We need to find the very best candidates in the market and work harder on finding them a new job than any other recruiter.
·         Our job is find great jobs for great people!
·         46% of candidates would like to meet their recruitment consultant face to face. We must ensure we are doing this.
·         Work according to Pareto’s law – spend 80% of your time working on the top 20% of your candidates.
Social Media
·         Ensure you are only posting updates about topics that are going to interest your target audience.
·         Each tweet has a half life of 16 minutes – you need to be tweeting on average 9 times per day to be noticed.
·         Use tools such as Buzzsumo and Feedly to generate and manage content ideas for sharing on social media.
·         Use Source Hub on Social Talent’s website to create Boolean searches for you. It’s a free tool.
·         Use the following search string to find Developers on Github:  Site:github.com 'joined on' java Cambridge

Aidan Anglin, REC Chairman and DP Connect Director will, of course, be present and looking forward to seeing all of those who can attend - Aidan will be hosting the introductions and annual review which I'm sure will get everybody geared up for the day ahead! A great line up of speakers are due to follow including Lisa Jones; focusing on the impending 2015, providing guidance to members on social media and how to best utilise this as effectively as you can for ROI. This is a hot topic at the moment and I look forward to catching up with Aidan on the thoughts of the day.
Of course things will not be ending there (especially when Aidan is involved) all members will then be heading to Diciannove Restaurant, at the Crowne Plaza, where the annual Christmas ‘do’ will be taking place – it is one not be missed!

A huge thank you to Global Recruiter and all those at Recruitment Live 2014

Aside from the stands in the main hall, we both had the chance to visit some of the Fringe Events throughout the day – with such a variety of seminars being held there was something for everyone across the business. I myself popped in to the Brand Workshop held by James Del-Gatto; was very insightful to hear just how successful a re-brand can be if implemented and executed accurately. DP Connect are currently at the beginning stages of a re-brand and I certainly gained some food for thought! I also joined in the Social Media and Restrictive Covenants event held by Paul Chamberlain of TEAM – with a growing focus on social media in this day and age it is fundamental to understand how to protect your business and Paul provided great examples of cases regarding non-solicitation and compete clauses and how they can and cannot be beneficial for your organisation. This also highlighted how a company’s view of their data and who has ownership of this can be wrong when in the public domain.
Metin also registered to some of the fringe events aimed at those within the Operations function of the business, such as the Mobile Recruitment discussion given by Mike Taylor, WBR. Metin advised this concerned how the growth in mobile devices is affecting companies especially within the recruitment sector and how the web may not be as mobile friendly as you first think. We have recently launched a “mobile-friendly” version of our website so it was interesting to hear how this can be further developed.
Would like to thank Global Recruiter for an excellent day and praise on how brilliantly it was organised.
We wish we could have attended more of the Fringe Events or be a part of Day 2 but we definitely will be back next year with some more colleagues!
Plus we now never need to worry about being short of a pen!

Great Response from Monday’s Recruitment Matters “Inspirational and Effective Leadership” Course

Posted: 2014-11-27
On Monday Matthew Taylor (Resource Team Leader) and Richard Howard (Head of Payments Practice) attended the Inspirational and Effective Leadership training day hosted by Recruitment Matters International with Stewart Stone taking lead on training throughout the day.
The Inspirational and Effective Leadership day focuses on those within a Managerial or Directorial position – helping them to enhance the management skills they have learnt to date and the best way to adapt these to promote loyalty, dedication and simply better results, from the teams they lead.
I caught up with Matt and Richard on their thoughts from the day:
“Coming away from the course it was a pleasure to have met with a variety of SME business owners, directors and team leaders; like myself. Amongst a number of topics of discussions it was insightful to learn from all of my fellow trainees the number of different approaches that we all take when building, developing and nurturing our teams. It was particularly helpful to then reflect on all of these methods and the success rates in which we have had, so as though we could pinpoint the most effective techniques. I am eager to begin implementing these approaches as part of my day-to-day management role and hope I can reap some of the success of which was demonstrated by Stewart.”
